ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2020
Seattle, WA: This year in combination with the
annual international conference
Thursday - Saturday, April 30-May 2, 2020
THEME
We are holding our chapter’s annual meeting in conjunction with the 73rd Annual International Conference so that our members have the opportunity to attend both events. Our annual conference will be abbreviated; we are hosting our annual banquet and keynote speaker event on Friday evening. SAH MDR will also be sponsoring a paper panel and a roundtable discussion within the larger SAH conference. SAHMDR members who are not attending the whole SAH conference may register in person at the conference hotel for these two sessions at a discounted rate.
The SAH is being held in Seattle, April 29–May 3, 2020 (https://www.sah.org/2020/program). SAH members from around the world will convene to present new research on the history of the built environment and explore the architecture of Seattle and nearby areas. The conference will include 36 paper sessions, roundtables and workshops, architecture and landscape tours, networking receptions, and more.
We wish to be clear about registration. Those attending the SAH MDR Friday evening banquet and keynote must pay for the banquet in advance by check or via Eventbrite. A registration form will be included in the final program. We are excited to see you in Seattle!

Redevelopment and Reconciliation: Urban Planning & Northwest Indigenous Architecture
Renaissance Hotel, East Room, 3rd floor.
Amanda Clark, Moderator
Patrick Stewart, Daniel Glenn, Ouri Scott, Johnpaul Jones, Discussants
This open discussion, guided roundtable, provides an opportunity for active, in-depth
discussion and interaction on the greater topic of post-colonization, reparation, and
reconciliation with indigenous communities. We seek to foster discussion of the critical
issues relating to the design and planning that is currently happening in the Pacific
Northwest in response to movements such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
This Roundtable will stimulate conversation on the concept of “decolonization” by
examining past histories and current realities regarding design and Indigenous peoples
while imagining a decolonized and more sustainable future. This Roundtable has value
for conference attendees in that it brings into conversation questions of decolonized
planning and preservation within the Pacific Northwest.
